Focus on Sit On Top (SOT) Kayaks

Many of the recreational kayaks today are sit on top (SOT) kayaks. With basic instructions, almost anyone (either physically able or disabled) can paddle one.  A SOT kayak is typically easier to get the hang of whether you're a child, a teenager or an adult.  Due to the differences in body size and shape, a SOT kayak may be more practical for your recreational paddling purposes.  Some reasons why you might want to purchase a sit on top kayak are as follow:

1. Open kayaks or sit on top kayaks tend to allow greater leg room and aren't so constricting should you be tall or hefty.
2. Although not impossible to capsize, sit on top kayaks are generally more stable.
3. With a sit on top kayak, should you capsize, you don't have to worry about being trapped in a cockpit like you might if you paddle a sit-inside kayak (SINK or SIK).  Should you fall out or off of a sit on top kayak it's fairly easy to pull yourself back on.
4. Sit on top kayaks are generally less expensive than sit inside kayaks (SINKs or SIKs) and you can often buy a used or pre-owned sit on top kayak relatively cheaply.
