Recreational Kayaking In the Southeastern States

Florida:

It's difficult to narrow down the choices, because the east coast of Florida offers numerous spots for kayakers to put in.  Some of our favorites are listed below:

Volusia County, Florida is home to a number of interesting kayak spots.  Focusing on flatwater kayaking, the Indian River is a good bet. River Breeze Park in Oak Hill, Florida offers kayakers a nice place to launch.  There is no admission to the park and it's open year round, 24/7.  A paved parking area and launch site make entry a breeze!  Lots of birdlife and water creatures including manatee and dolphins can be spotted from these waters.  Even better, there are good restroom facilities, hiking areas and covered picnic tables.  It's a great place to spend the day kayaking, fishing or relaxing.  Don't forget, it's free!  Fre.e admission to the park.

Highbridge Park In Volusia County

Ormond Beach, Florida in Volusia County is the setting for the Highbridge Park.  This park is just south of the North Peninsula State Park (or Recreation Area). Highbridge is a one acre park with a free launch for kayaks, canoes and motorboats. Kayakers are able to paddle the Halifax River and its tributaries including Bulow Creek. It's a fairly easy and leisurely paddling opportunity at Highbridge. The Halifax River is saltwater and subject to tidal fluctuations. There are also restrooms, picnic facilities and grills at this park. Highbridge Park at 39 Highbridge Road, Ormond Beach, FL is open from sunrise to sunset. For more information call 386-257-6000 ext. 5953.  Don't forget, admission is fre.e!

Gemini Springs In Volusia County, Florida

Gemini Springs in Volusia County is a great place to focus on recreational kayaking. The Springs are between Enterprise, Florida and DeBary, Florida at 37 Dirksen Drive, DeBary, FL. Gemini Springs was once under private ownership and utilized for ranching purposes. Today, it's open to the public. Admission to the park is free. There is a kayak/canoe launch area near the fishing pier. Recreational kayakers and kayak fishermen will enjoy the paddling at Gemini Springs. The Springs feed into Lake Monroe. Alligators are present and swimming is not allowed. This park also has beautiful nature trails and a bike trail. There are sidewalks for easy access to most of the facilities in line with ADA requirements. Admission to the park and the kayak launch site is free. Gemini Springs Park is open from sunrise to sunset.
